At last—the sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and music lovers are counting down the days (or weeks, or months) until they’re finally at the music festival they’ve been dreaming about (and saving up for) all winter. That’s right, folks, festival season is upon us! When it comes to outdoor music festivals, most people know that there are a few must-pack items, like sunscreen, bug spray, earplugs, a sleeping bag, and your phone (so you can document the whole experience on Instagram/Snapchat, of course). But depending on the festival you’re heading to, there are a few not-as-expected essentials you should make sure to have on hand.

Each festival has its own community vibe—artsy, hip, hard rock, the list goes on. There’s quite literally something for every music preference out there. Music festivals, are, after all, all about being free and true to yourself, so we’re not here to tell you what to need to pack. We are here, however, to give you some serious inspiration—and hey, who knows; you might find an item or two that you wind up falling in love with along the way. So, whether you’re off to Glastonbury or Tomorrowland, Sziget or Fuji Rock, Summerfest or Iceland Airwaves—we’ve rounded up the “must-pack items” for every type of musical festival, ahead. And don’t forget that sunscreen.
