On November 17, 1961, a 27-year-old Canadian photographer named Douglas Kirkland photographed one of the world’s biggest stars: Marilyn Monroe.
Taken for the cover of Look magazine’s 25th anniversary, the images show Monroe lying on a bed, swathed in white sheets, staring seductively at the camera.
As the daughter of Salvador Dali’s long-time publisher and confidante Pierre Argillet, Christine Argillet grew up watching the Spanish genius at work.
“He was somebody extraordinary even for a child,” Argillet said. “We were going to Spain during the summers and we would see Dali on a daily basis. We were in the hotel in front of his studio. It was very interesting to see him work. The entire summer he would be working on very large-scale paintings. It was fascinating because you would see him work with so unconventional tools.”

Art imitates a surreal, transcendent moment in the life of every Chicago Cubs fan with the work of Opie Otterstand, which will be exhibited in Water Tower Place beginning next week. Cubs pitcher John Lackey got his own personal preview back on February 24th with a showing of It Happened from Otterstad himself. The painting, which depicts the Cubs’ World Series triumph, was unveiled to Lackey, and everyone else during a fundraiser at Vandergrift High School in Leander, Texas.
