“This is my fight song,” Ra’chel Saintfort said. The Lakeland singer is talking about “The Harvest,” which is the first single from a new EP due on December 4.

“When I wrote this song, it represented the fight in me, the struggles I’ve overcome. This record is for that person fighting an illness, that person chasing their dream, or that person fighting depression. It’s about the fight and knowing that one day, you’ll overcome all obstacles. It’s a reminder that you’ve come too far to give up now.”

In May, People magazine and Good Morning America took notice of the transformation and chronicled her weight loss journey, which saw Saintfort lose more than 124 pounds to date. Last month, Saintfort landed on People’s cover alongside Meghan Markle, plus George and Amal Clooney.

Now Saintfort — a Lake Gibson High School and University of South Florida alum who grew up singing hymns in English and her native Creole tongue — wants to extend her music’s reach well beyond the confines of the Sunshine State.
