BOSTON — David Ortiz won’t be lacking in artwork as he enters retirement. The Boston Red Sox designated hitter began the final regular-season series of his career Friday night at Fenway Park against the Toronto Blue Jays. Ahead of that contest, the soon-to-be-retired slugger was presented with a special gift during a pregame ceremony. Ortiz received a painting by world-renowned artist Peter Max, who has painted works for six U.S. presidents, in a special presentation from Foxwoods Resort Casino, the Red Sox Foundation and NESN.
For two decennial anniversaries in a row, Peter Max has designed our cover. One of the major figures in contemporary American art, Max first made his splash in the late 1960s. His pop art was daring, with bold colors that found their own space.
The exhibit takes place on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 6-8 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 25 from 2-4 p.m. at Off The Wall Gallery in the Houston Galleria. On both days, guests will also have the opportunity to meet the artist himself.
Mark Burns spent five years visiting all 59 of the United States’ national parks. Captured in stirring black and white images, his landscape photography project was completed just in time for the National Park Service’s centennial celebration.
