Recently, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to speak with one of the greatest American artists of the modern era, Peter Max. He has a show debuting his new collection this weekend at Gallery 725 here in Atlantic Beach, with chances for fans to meet “America’s Favorite Living Artist” on both Saturday and Sunday.
Pop art icon Peter Max will be in Sarasota this weekend for the opening of a newly curated retrospective exhibit at State of the Arts Gallery. Entitled The Art of Peter Max, the show hangs for only three days in State of the Arts’ Gallery C, with two appearances by the artist scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

BOSTON — David Ortiz won’t be lacking in artwork as he enters retirement. The Boston Red Sox designated hitter began the final regular-season series of his career Friday night at Fenway Park against the Toronto Blue Jays. Ahead of that contest, the soon-to-be-retired slugger was presented with a special gift during a pregame ceremony. Ortiz received a painting by world-renowned artist Peter Max, who has painted works for six U.S. presidents, in a special presentation from Foxwoods Resort Casino, the Red Sox Foundation and NESN.
For two decennial anniversaries in a row, Peter Max has designed our cover. One of the major figures in contemporary American art, Max first made his splash in the late 1960s. His pop art was daring, with bold colors that found their own space.
The exhibit takes place on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 6-8 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 25 from 2-4 p.m. at Off The Wall Gallery in the Houston Galleria. On both days, guests will also have the opportunity to meet the artist himself.

As one of the world’s greatest living artists, Peter Max has cast quite a bit of influence through his melding of psychedelia and pop art and a prolific output that’s found him literally putting his mark on everything from canvas and album covers to cruise ships and airlines.
